Why Portugal

A gentle landing at the edge of Europe

Portugal has quietly become one of the most popular places for people from South London to start again — the mild winters, the coastline, the welcome and the easier pace all play their part. Some come to retire on the Algarve, some for remote work from Lisbon, some to restore an old house in the north. The move itself is long, but it need not be stressful: we take on the driving, the crossings and the paperwork so you can think about the life waiting at the end.

The route

Norbury to the Atlantic

We collect in Norbury, run out to the M25 and down to the Channel for the ferry or the tunnel. From there the drive goes the length of France, then across and around Spain — the Iberian crossing is a fair stretch in itself — before we cross into Portugal and head for your region. It is the biggest of the four journeys we run from SW16, and we schedule it accordingly, with the load in safe hands and secure stops the whole way.

Where we deliver

Coast to coast, north to south

Lisbon & the Estoril coast
The capital and the seaside towns west of it — apartments, hills and city access planned in advance.
The Algarve (Faro & Lagos)
The southern coast, our most-requested Portuguese destination for sun-and-retirement moves.
Porto & the north
The Douro city and the green north — the longer run to the top of the country.
The Silver Coast
The Atlantic villages and towns between Lisbon and the north, a quieter alternative to the Algarve.

Since Brexit

Customs at the far end

Bringing your belongings into Portugal now requires a customs declaration and a detailed, valued inventory. When Portugal is becoming your main home, you can usually claim Transfer of Residence relief on your used household goods, so they are not taxed as a commercial import. We prepare the inventory with you, line up the evidence, handle the declaration and keep the documents with the load — so a long journey does not end in a customs hold-up.

Good to know

Moving to Portugal from Norbury — your questions

How do you get to Portugal by road?

Portugal sits at the far south-west corner of Europe, so it is the longest of our four routes. From Norbury we cross the Channel, drive down through France, then across or around Spain before crossing into Portugal itself. It is a big drive, so we plan it in proper stages with secure overnight stops for your belongings.

What do I need for moving to Portugal from the UK after Brexit?

A customs declaration and a detailed, valued inventory of your goods. If Portugal is becoming your main residence, you can normally claim relief on used household effects — the Transfer of Residence route — so your own furniture is not taxed as an import. We prepare the inventory and manage the declaration with you, and carry the paperwork with the load.

Do you deliver to the Algarve as well as Lisbon?

Yes — the Algarve is one of our most-requested Portuguese destinations, along with Lisbon and the Estoril coast. Faro, Lagos and the towns between them are all on our map. Porto and the north, and the Silver Coast villages, are equally reachable; the extra distance south or north is planned into the schedule and the quote.

Can we send just part of a household to Portugal?

Absolutely. Plenty of Portugal moves are part loads — you take a share of the vehicle sized to what you are actually bringing, sharing the rest with other moves on the run. It keeps a long-distance move sensible. Your written quote will set out an estimated collection and delivery window.
